This is a comprehensive and thorough history compiled by Jamie Barthel's late father, Carl Stone Van Wagenen, who grew up in Woodstock, New York - the 8th Great Grandson of Jacob Aertson Van Wagenen.  After retiring from the New York State Police, he devoted 14 years of his "retired" time to researching the family tree of Dutch ancestors, the family of Jacob Aertsen Van Wagenen, of Wageningen, Holland.  It includes the Holland-Dutch families who called themselves Van Wagenen, Van Wagoner, Van Wagonen, Van Wagner, and Van Wagnen, and who are descended from the earliest Dutch settlers who came to New Netherlands from Wageningen, Holland, sometime between 1637-1650.  There is a vast number of names, dates, census information, health records, newspaper articles and obituaries, marriage records, birth and death certificates - you name it.

This hard cover 434 page library bound maroon book covers the family history from 1637-1994 - spanning 14 generations, when Carl finished his research and published this book. He visited every library, historical society, graveyard, records room, etc. to find every ounce of information he could on the Van Wagenen families until he was satisfied with his work.  He met relatives and families from across the globe and formed relationships with many of them, in order to obtain any information he could on the lineage and history of the families, and in doing so, earned great respect and admiration for the work he was doing.  Carl unfortunately passed away from cancer on November 2nd, 2019, but his decades of work lives on for others to appreciate.
